Reviews
Nice hotel in good location. Lifts are terrible, and not fit for purpose, even though they seem quite charming.
Service is poor, it is quite clear on the front desk they are trained to smile and be well spoken but they also don’t want to help.
They didn’t want to help us with luggage, they didn’t want to help with the pushchair, they left a note in our room for someone else and asking to help with a taxi was greeted with a sigh.
Restaurant staff are the opposite of this and very good.
A reasonably nice hotel but not outstanding. It feels a little old fashioned in some ways but it’s comfortable. The building itself is beautiful with lots of features but it is reliant on one old lift which isn’t all that reliable. With that in mind, you may have to be prepared to use your legs and walk and and down stairs. The staff were friendly enough. Overall, I would go back again.
Just checked in to this hotel today. I am beyond disappointed!
Our room is dark, it hasn’t been cleaned (finger pints located on the coffee maker) and it smells like mildew or old wood. The lamps are also not working. The decor is very outdated.
We raise our concerns with the front desk staff. I ask to be refunded so that I can go to Grand Hotel instead. She says no. At this point we have been at the hotel for one hour, time spent at the restaurant.
Now she shows us two more rooms.
At this point the elevator is not working and we need to go up to floor 6. If the door is not closed the elevator won’t move. The front desk employee who is about to show us the rooms just says “The elevator is not working. I’m going to take the service elevator and meet you up on floor 6”, basically saying “you guys can take are stairs- see you on floor 6”. Extremely rude and bad service.
We get to the rooms after climbing 6 floors. The first room is also very dark but smaller. The second one is much smaller but brighter because it has bigger windows. She gives us an option to upgrade to this smaller room for 1250 SEK extra. We are well travelled ( I live in the US) and we know that anywhere else in the world a five star hotel should offer you the room upgrade complimentary to make sure you’re happy. She told us she is going to see what she can do, and comes back with a “discount” of 1000 SEK for the upgrade, instead of 1250.
And on top of this, the low level of restaurant service was extremely shocking. We were three people that had one drink each and ordered two dishes in total. The waiter managed to forget one of our drinks- a Diet Coke. And they forgot one of the two dishes… if you are coming here be prepared to pay for 5 stars but you will receive 1,5 stars
UPDATE 1/18/2024: A member of their Guest Sevices team reached out to apologize for the below par experience we had a couple of days after we departed the hotel. Many excuses and promises of “implementation of drastic measures” to rectify the treatment we received are presented in the email, but when I ask (twice) what these measures are I get no answer. The team member is not acknowledging my request for a refund and is instead offering me 50% off for my next stay. I have multiple times told them I have no desire to return and all I want is my money back. The correspondence included emojis but no answers to my questions or concerns. STAY AWAY!
Currently staying at the hotel at the time of writing this.
The good part is that the hotel itself is well-located next to the waterfront, in a high-end area of town and with other centrally-located destinations also within walking distance. It’s also a very handsome hotel from the outside, with nice enough (though somewhat dated) interiors. Finally, the breakfast is very good and was included with our room.
The bad part is that our room (front facing and with a ‘sea view’) has been thumping all night (9pm—1am) for two nights in a row due to very loud music with heavy bass coming from somewhere else in the hotel (I believe the ground floor outdoor speakers or the hotel restaurant/bar on the 1st floor). When I called the front desk about this the first night (because I couldn’t get to sleep), I was told they would do something to address the noise, which they never did.
I followed up in the morning and was told there was some sort of wedding event, and this was a one-off experience out of their control (annoying, but okay I suppose).
However, here I am the next evening, and for the past two hours my room has again been shaking from loud music and bass. This time when I called the front desk, I was met with “we with check it out and do something,”though nothing has been done. I also asked about changing rooms, but was told the hotel is fully booked.
In other words, this is the second night in a row without being able to sleep easily, with no action or remedy on the part of the hotel.
Being able to sleep well seems like a basic requirement at an upscale hotel, so it’s difficult to recommend Hotel Diplomat to others based on this experience and the fact that Stockholm has so many other nice alternatives for accommodation.
We booked the 5 course New Year's Eve dinner 2024. Expectations were not met. The cocktails were good
The charme is somehow gone. The location stays excellent... The servive is irregular, depending on your luck. The absence of help with the luggage is not acceptable, taking into account that are steps from the lift to the room, and even inside the room...
Luxury hotel in the middle of the main tourist area. Walk to museums and the palace with a few other castles thrown for good measure. Right on a canal with lovely water views. Wonderful restaurant.
Well, how do you describe the very same local Hotel lounge one has spent more hours in total, than the current staff operatives of this entire floor. Well, this social pattern do deem À necessity sam currently not meeting clients for file …
